With Proper Diagnosis and Care Most Individuals Will Fully Recover From Their Concussion
Current research shows that the severity of a concussion cannot be determined until AFTER all symptoms have subsided. For this reason, proper neuropsychological exams are necessary to fully understand and determine the extent of the concussion and its severity.
A best case scenario would be to have a pre-injury neuropsychological exam done prior to the injury so there is baseline data to compare the post-injury evaluations to. But, even if the individual has not had an exam done prior to their injury, regular follow-up exams are necessary to determine when it is safe to return to class/play/sport/recess/work.
Joe Bolewicz has recognized the need to provide the community with education on concussions and neuropsychological exams. He was recently given the opportunity to present to the local nurses and healthcare providers on the most current information available on concussion prevention, care and management.
Recently, Joe attended a number of conferences that focused on concussions and the current research and data surrounding them, because he feels there is a real need for concussion education and proper diagnosis and care of the injury. He was able to talk with numerous physicians, coaches, athletes, and athletic trainers to put together a proper neuropsychological exam to give to individuals before and following a concussion. Joe is now offering these tests at Stanwood Camano Physical Therapy.
